Mission Statement

The mission of Alexander Erwin Tutoring is to cultivate a deeper understanding of the theory of Mathematics and Sciences that can be applied universally to future classes and help students in their continuing endeavors. 

Additionally, Alexander Erwin Tutoring strives to cultivate a passion for the humanities to enrich the minds of students.

My Method

At Alexander Erwin Tutoring, I emphasize the theory behind the material. Although a basic understanding is foundational to learning, I believe that students cannot fully understand a mathematical, scientific, or literary concept without an understanding of the theory behind it. Students must understand why each concept exists and how they can apply it in future situations. Knowledge of theory allows for a much deeper and more complete understanding of the concept. This understanding helps to cultivate a long term knowledge of the material and a solid foundation for future classes.

About Me

Alexander Erwin

Tutor
I am a Sophomore at Vanderbilt University and have been tutoring for almost five years. I have had a passion for numbers for as long as I can remember and I am fascinated by the way that mathematics and science express the world. I have also always loved to tell stories and to write. There is a misconception that STEM people cannot also be Humanities people. Part of my mission is to break that stereotype, because I believe that both fields of study are necessary to understand the world we live in and to reach our true potential.

Mathematics

Through AP Calculus BC
I have completed math through Multi-Variable Calculus and am now enrolled in Differential Equations. I have experience tutoring in all math through AP Calculus.

Science

Honors Chemistry / AP Physics
I am currently enrolled in AP Physics C and have completed AP Physics 1 and Honors Chemistry. I am able to tutor any of those classes and can provide extra help in the math areas.

Latin

Latin 1-3
I have completed Latin 1-3 and am currently enrolled in AP Latin. I tutor Latin grammar and translation and sessions come with a grammar cheat sheet for future reference.

English

Essay Review
I have taken two AP English courses and am a creative writer in my spare time. I am able to proofread essays or give bigger picture feedback on ideas and themes.
